The Tale of the Cardigan

So the main reason I started this blog is to display this cardigan that I made for my friend Casey as a going away present, since he just left Ithaca to go to grad school at the University of Georgia and had been dreaming about a hand-knitted cardigan for a while:

The cardi was paid for through a community contribution from friends. I used Rowan Yorkshire Tweed in some brown color I can't remember the name of right now (ok ok I'm awful), and a pattern from Rowan Vintage Style and inspiration from Brooklyn Tweed's blog as pointed out to Casey by Cookie A. Whew. Long provenance.

Anyway, I'll probably do better documentation in future since nighttime isn't the best time for seeing the cardigan in detail. I especially like the elbow patches. This is the first time in forever that I've knitted a pattern essentially without modification. Here's another picture:

The cardigan ended up being bigger than planned due to my very relaxed (loose) knitting style, even though I used a needle size smaller than recommended. So I ended up shrinking it in the dryer and it actually came out quite spiffy.

pictures for a project

so the only thing i've knitted that i have documentation for is this dress:

and it's only because i was using it to model jewelry by noah landow. the dress was made using the top pattern from teva durham's loop-d-loop and the rest i made up. of course, i also can't remember the yarn, bad documenter that i am. i hope to be better about all this in future. in the meantime, other pictures:

first post

so my gmail isn't working today and so at the encouragement of knitting expert cookie a. (whose site i can't find right now because of the gmail problem), i've decided to start one. i've been knitting for about five years now, was taught by my best friend in art school anna back in san francisco where i did my mfa in photography. since then, i've made plenty of things but have been rather bad at documentation. i guess this is an attempt to remedy that problem.
